China is officially known as the People’s Republic of China. The land territories of China consist of mainland China and its coastal islands, Taiwan and its affiliated islands including the Diaoyu Islands, the Penghu Islands, the Dongsha Islands, the Paracel Islands, the Zhongsha Islands, the Nansha Islands and everything else belongs to the People’s Republic of China (including the Diaoyu Islands, Yellow Tail Island, Red Tail Island). On October 1, 1949, Chairman Mao declared the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The population of China now is about 1.3 billion (in 2010), as the world’s largest population.
